The Bull Roarer or Turndun is used in many Cultures all over the Globe. They are believed to be in use for 20.000 years. It consists of a surfboard shaped piece of wood connected with a cord to a small handle. When you take the handle and wind the cord with wooden piece a little bit, you can swing it around with a big circle in an horizontal plane with a stretched arm. The aerodynamics of the Instrument will keep it turning and it will start to make a buzzing-roaring sound. In many Traditions (Europe, Australia, North & South America, Mali, Maori …) this was used during Ceremonies to invite the Air Spirits, the Ancestors or even to ward off evil entities. It was also a tool to communicate over large distances. The low frequency piece in the sound scape travels over long distances. By changing the speed and angle we can change the tone.<\/p>\n
